Exploring Mining’s Future: Unearthing Riches in Digital Innovation
This lecture explores the transformation of mining through digital technologies, from the historical evolution of computational power to the latest in AI, automation, and connectivity. It highlights how advances like scale computing, edge devices, and ubiquitous connectivity are reshaping operational capabilities and efficiency in mining. Attendees will gain insight into the limitations of Moore’s Law, the rise of autonomous systems, and the significance of data management, especially “dark data”, in a rapidly digitizing industry. The talk also examines the critical role of emerging technologies like spatial computing and AI in augmenting human expertise, emphasizing that the future belongs to those who can harness technology thoughtfully.

This session will challenge students to rethink the boundaries of mining and the skills needed to thrive.
