Short Bio
Dr. Anna Karatzetzou holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 2007), a Master’s Degree in Earthquake Engineering and Seismic Design of Structures (AUTH, 2009), and a PhD in Civil Engineering from the same department (AUTH, 2015, with distinction). In 2020, she completed a second Master’s Degree in Environmental Disasters and Crisis Management Strategies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. In 2025, she assumed duties as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mineral Resources of the University of Western Macedonia. She has long-standing and continuous research activity with participation in 19 European and national research projects, focusing on seismic risk and vulnerability of structures, structural dynamics, geotechnical earthquake engineering, and soil–foundation–structure interaction. Beyond technical research, she has also contributed substantially to the preparation and submission of competitive research proposals, the organization of scientific events, stakeholder communication, and the drafting of deliverables and progress reports. She has served as University Fellow at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University of Western Macedonia, International Hellenic University, and University of Thessaly, as well as affiliated academic staff at the Hellenic Open University. She has been awarded two postdoctoral research fellowships from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY). Since 2010, she has participated in the organization of numerous scientific conferences and workshops and is actively involved in the national and international scientific community. Notably, she has been appointed member of the national committee of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization (OASP) for the pre-earthquake assessment and redesign of bridges, and Disaster Expert in the Earthquake Emergency Response Team (EERT) of IABSE, with focus on critical infrastructure (bridges, tunnels, power and gas networks, schools, hospitals). Dr. Karatzetzou has authored more than 100 scientific contributions in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, and book chapters, with over 950 citations to her work.
